Residents' associations
Recognition under section 29 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985.
A recognised tenants' association gives leaseholders a formal voice. Recognition comes from the landlord, or from the First-tier Tribunal if the landlord refuses. Associations generally need to represent about 60% of the qualifying leaseholders.
What recognition gives you
- The right to be consulted on Section 20 works and to nominate contractors.
- Information on service charge costs and insurance.
- Consultation when a managing agent is appointed.
- The right to appoint a surveyor to advise on service charges.
We help associations with constitutions, membership records and working constructively with the landlord.
