About Churchtown and Kew
Churchtown is one of Southport’s oldest corners. Sefton Council’s leaflet records that St Cuthbert’s Church was rebuilt in 1730 to 1739 and Meols Hall in 1603. Listed 17th- and 18th-century cottages, some of them thatched, line Botanic Road and Churchgate.
The Botanic Gardens in Churchtown is a Grade II registered park with a Green Flag award.
Kew lies on Southport’s south-eastern side. It is home to Southport and Formby District General Hospital, on Town Lane.
Heritage and conservation
- Churchtown Village conservation area, designated in 1973
- North Meols conservation area, designated in 1988, on Historic England’s Heritage at Risk Register
- Botanic Gardens, a Grade II registered park
Worth looking out for
- Older buildings. Lime mortar, timber windows and slate roofs need the right materials. Historic England advises repairing old windows rather than replacing them where you can.
- Listed buildings. Works that affect a listed building’s character need listed building consent first.
- Shared estates. If your home is on an estate with shared roads, landscaping or play areas, those are usually paid for through an estate charge.
Every building is different. Book a call back and we’ll talk you through what matters for yours.
